It’s that wonderful time of year again friends. Trees lit up and decorated beautifully in the window of every house that you pass by. Christmas music playing on loop in every store that you walk into. Holiday parties full of friends and family. Malls packed with frantic shoppers. The Christmas season is certainly upon us.
Perhaps the memory of packed malls doesn’t bring you Christmas cheer like the others. While I do love Christmas, buying gifts is usually the best and worst part of it for me. In fact, buying Christmas gifts can be downright brutal. It seems like it gets harder and harder every year to find gifts that I know everyone will like.
I love seeing the joy on someones face when they open the gift that I bought them. Especially when I know that I bought them the perfect gift that they will love. It’s not always easy to find the perfect gift for someone though. Some people can be very difficult to shop for.
While I can’t help you pick out any gifts for your dear old Uncle Ned or that cousin you only see at funerals, I can certainly help with one group of people in your life, bodybuilders.
If there’s any group that I know well, it’s bodybuilders. My gift suggestions for the bodybuilder in your life are sure to help you find a gift that they will love and keep you out of those crowded malls.
Here are my 12 Christmas gift suggestions for the bodybuilder in your life in no particular order.
Written by Arnold Schwarzenegger and known by many as the bible of bodybuilding, this is the perfect gift for any bodybuilder or weightlifting enthusiast.
Arnold covers the topic of bodybuilding from every angle imaginable to include competition, diet, nutrition and training. This is a large and beautiful book full of pictures.
This book is great for anyone into bodybuilding but will be particularly helpful for the beginner as it has all the needed information in one place.
Featured on an episode of Shark Tank, the Ice Shaker is an insulated stainless steel protein shaker that is able to hold ice for over thirty hours.
Most people, myself included, like their protein shakes either with ice or ice-cold. There’s nothing worse than a warm protein shake. Since most protein shakers are used on the go, this will make sure to keep a shake (or any drink) cold until you decide to drink it.
It’s vacuum insulated and spill proof. It includes a removable agitator meant to break up clumps of protein however, the agitator can also be used as a fruit infuser which is great for making flavored water.
These have been a staple in my daily fitness routine for years. Pushups are one of the best exercises you can do to strengthen and build your upper body.
While many do them as a workout alone, they are a great supplemental exercise to any bodybuilding program. I do them whenever I have some free time at home or while watching TV.
These are very well-made handles that add an extra layer of difficulty to the standard pushup. On top of allowing you to go deeper than you usually can with just your hands on the ground, these handles rotate to allow you to hit your chest, shoulders and arms at multiple different angles.
Staying hydrated and drinking enough water is extremely important for building muscle. Although it’s become known as an unfortunate stereotype, bodybuilders usually lug around a gallon water jug everywhere they go.
Buying gallon after gallon can be annoying. The disposable ones you buy in the store don’t last very long and are not good for refilling. For some reason, there hasn’t been too many reusable gallon water bottles made and I have had a hard time finding one in the past.
These jugs are BPA free and easy to clean and reuse. One really cool and admittedly cheesy thing about them is the motivational messages they have written on them. Well I’m sure the motivational messages are helpful to many, I like the measurement lines on the bottles that go along with the messages.
Drinking a gallon of water a day can be difficult. The markings on these jugs help you keep and stay on track to make sure you don’t have to chug half a gallon at the end of the day before you go to sleep.
Most bodybuilders keep detailed logs of their workouts. It helps you track your progress and plan your workouts. While I have used standard lined notebooks in the past, they tend to get disorganized and messy quickly.
These are well-made notebooks which are simply designed. There is space to keep track of your daily workouts and exercises. There is also space in the log to track your progress and goals which I really like.
These logs make it very easy to track your workouts and can be easily filled out as you go through your workout.
Bodybuilders need to keep a lot of food with them at all times. Even something as simple as an eight-hour shift at work can include three meals.
Bringing all my food and shakes to work has been a daily frustration for me in the past. The only thing I was able to use was a standard plastic shopping bag. I could fit all of my food and shakes in it but it’s awkward to carry and easy to spill things.
This lunch bag is awesome and totally solves my problems. It’s an insulated bag which can keep food cold for up to 10 hours. With the bag, comes three large dishwasher safe containers, two ice-packs and a protein shaker.
On top of that, it has two zippered side pockets with plenty of room to fit supplements, napkins or utensils. The bag also comes with a lifetime guarantee.
If you know someone struggling to drag all their food to work in a plastic bag like I was, buy this for them and they will love you forever.
This is my current favorite whey protein. It’s grass-fed and free of artificial ingredients. This is the best tasting whey protein powder that I have had in a long time.
It comes in a variety of flavors including cookies and cream, mint chocolate, mocha cappuccino, strawberry banana, and chocolate peanut butter. My favorite flavor is cookies and cream. There’s actually real pieces of cookies mixed into the protein powder which is amazing.
This book and it’s author, Kelly Starrett, have been huge in the Crossfit community for years. I have owned this book for about two years and it has been immeasurably helpful for correcting my form and improving my range of motion.
Most bodybuilders have nagging injuries and trouble with their range of motion. This book is by far the best I’ve found for reducing and helping with exercise related injuries.
If you’re a bodybuilder and reading this, you are probably neglecting your range of motion. This book will help you with that. You don’t just want to look like an athlete you want to move like one as well.
I have owned these headphones for about a year and I am in love with them. I bought these initially for running but I have used them in the gym many times.
The sound on these is awesome and you are able to pause, stop or change the song right on the side of the headphones. The battery also lasts a long time on these between charges.
I got the vibe that these are designed for gaming but I have put these through the gauntlet and they are definitely durable enough to workout with. I have covered them in sweat many times and have never had any issues. They continue to hold up strong after all the use and abuse.
They are also available in a variety of cool colors. One thing I will say is that these are a bit bulky and not the coolest looking but I’ll choose performance over looks any day.
I have an obsession with building big forearms and having a strong grip. One of the best ways to do that is to train with thick handled bars and dumbbells.
Sadly, the vast majority of gyms do not have thick handled bars and dumbbells. These grips solve that problem. They are rubber grips that easily fit on standard bars and dumbbells, making them much harder to hold.
With the increase in bar width, it makes your forearms and hands work much harder. These grips are awesome for building a strong grip and big forearms. I particularly like using them on kettlebells or dumbbells for famer’s carries.
These can easly be carried in any gym bag or backpack and used in any gym. They are a great way to change your workout up and will have your forearms screaming.
Once a thing of the past during the golden era of bodybuilding, arm blasters have made a comeback in recent years. Arm blasters allow you to isolate your biceps further during bicep curls by restricting your range of motion.
While it can be a bit awkward at first, you really notice a difference when you use an arm blaster. I definitely notice a big difference when I use one.
A word of advice, go lighter than you usually would on curls and focus on form. These are meant to isolate your biceps and you should focus on careful strict form.
From the same company that makes the pushup handles I suggested, these ab straps are a great attachment for your home pull-up bar.
Ab raises work your abs really well and are pretty damn hard to do. Like the pushup handles, I will bang out a few sets of leg raises while watching TV or in between chores. They add up overtime and are very effective for getting that v-cut on the bottom of your abs.
