This post is long overdue, and I feel selfish for not writing it sooner. My apologies for that.
I know that many of you are dealing with nagging injuries, aches and pains that interfere with your workouts and daily life.
You may have an injury as you read this that’s keeping you from entering the gym at all.
I’ve been there and I’ve done that.
Years of sports and lifting weights has left me with some nagging injuries and permanent damage.
I’ve had three knee surgeries on the same knee all before I reached 30.
Breaks, sprains, tendinitis, tears. I’ve been through it all. Injuries suck.
What if there was something out there that could not only help you recover from injuries, but actively work to prevent them in the future while strengthening your body at the same time?
Luckily, a former professional wrestler with a big personality and a bigger heart has created that program, and it can all be done from the comfort of your own home.
The program is called DDP yoga and its been my secret for staying injury-free for years now.
If you’ve never heard of it before, this DDP yoga review is going to tell you everything you need to know about it.
This is a program that has truly been life changing for so many people, myself included.
Who is DDP?
DDP stands for Diamond Dallas Page. DDP was a former world champion professional wrestler that I grew up watching.
DDP is also the author of a great book called Positively Unstoppable.
He’s a fountain of positivity and you just can’t help but listen when he talks.
I would have never thought back then as I watched him on TV that he would create something that would help me so much in the future.
DDP did not start wrestling until he was 35 years old. If you’re not a wrestling fan, just know that’s quite late to get into the wrestling business.
During the years he wrestled, DDP racked up some serious injuries to include a serious neck injury, knee injuries including an ACL tear, torn rotator cuffs (both shoulders) and ruptures to the L4/L5 discs in his back. Ouch!
Wrestling basically destroyed his body leaving him in a state where he could barely move or walk.
After his back injury, his wife convinced him to try out some of her yoga DVD’s in an attempt to heal himself.
According to DDP, he vehemently refused to do yoga at first and always says that “I was a guy that wouldn’t get caught dead doing yoga”.
DDP is definitely a guy you would never expect to find in a yoga studio.
Eventually he gave in and started doing some yoga. Along with the DVD’s, he created some of his own movements and ultimately created DDP Yoga.
DDP was back in the ring wrestling again within three months despite being told by several doctors that he would never wrestle again.
DDP directly contributes the yoga to helping him rehabilitate himself and get back into the ring.
After retiring from wrestling, DDP brought his yoga system to the masses and continues to do so to this day.
DDP is now 63 years old however, the things that he can do with his body are amazing. It’s even more amazing when you understand how broken he really was before yoga.
About DDP Yoga
DDP Yoga is a complete DVD fitness system that’s designed to be done from the comfort of your own home.
The only thing you truly need to do it is a yoga mat and some space however, he strongly advises that you get a heart rate monitor to ensure you stay in the fat burning zone during the workout.
I personally don’t use one (don’t tell him), but its been in my amazon cart for months. One day.
Depending on your fitness level and injuries, you made need some other equipment to help you with the movements like a yoga block.
What makes DDP yoga different from any other yoga system out there is its design and movements.
While it does incorporate many basic yoga positions, DDP built the system around old school calisthenics like push-ups.
DDP utilizes an ingenious concept he calls dynamic resistance, where your muscles are working and shaking just standing still.
You don’t just spend a half-hour stretching and singing Kumbaya. With DDP yoga, you are working! Your muscles are shaking and you’re sweating.
This program is for everyone who thought that regular yoga wasn’t for them, but still want the benefits of it.
You get a series of DVD’s with the program that all feature DDP as the instructor.
In the DVD’s, DDP is doing the workout with real people that have benefited from the program.
If you think that yoga is too easy for you, your mind is going to be blown away by this program.
I guarantee that you will get stronger no matter how much you are currently lifting in the gym right now.
All while using nothing more than your own bodyweight.
Who is DDP yoga for?
DDP yoga is truly for everyone.
Whether you are looking to get in shape or rebuild your body and heal from an injury, DDP yoga can help.
DDP yoga first went viral in 2012 when a video of a disabled military veteran named Arthur Boorman had one of the craziest transformations the world has ever seen.
Seriously. The video made Joe Rogan cry.
Since that video, there have been several more documenting the incredible transformations that customers have made.
Whether its building muscle, healing an injury or dropping pounds, a ton of people have benefited from this program.
What you get with the program
When I bought it back in 2012, there was not as many options as there are now on the DDP Yoga site.
I bought the biggest package they had which included all of the DVD’s.
Now the biggest package comes with a program called Rebuild, that’s designed for those that are 55 and older with mobility issues.
The program I bought appears to be the same one that’s being sold now called the MAX pack. It comes with 6 DVD’s, a poster of the core movements and a program guide.
It also comes with a free trial of the DDP yoga app, which I have heard is awesome.
The poster and program guide are actually very useful as you need to understand how each movement is done before starting the program.
It is easy to understand, but it still needs some practice and understanding before you dive into it.
I also like the program guide because it’s like a mini-book. It talks about the program, but it also goes into diet and gives you sample meal plans. It even gives you recipes!
This is truly a complete program. DDP doesn’t leave you on your own with anything.
If you get this package, you will have everything you need to start your fitness journey.
My experience
I am a long-time user of DDP Yoga.
I bought the program sometime in 2012 when I first got into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
I don’t remember where I first heard about it, but it was in its infancy then.
From the first time that I tried it, I knew that this program was something special.
Although I think of myself as a big strong guy, this program made me realize that heavy weights aren’t everything when it comes to strength.
Have you ever done a 10-second push-up? If you haven’t, you’ll be doing one in this program and they are tough.
I was shaking like a fool just trying to hold a basic yoga pose!
After doing the program for a while, I noticed that my body felt noticeably stronger than it had before, particularly when it came to my legs.
Your lower body is really put to work with this program and you will notice the results.
This program is so powerful because it builds the whole body. It doesn’t just focus on one body party like most exercises and machines.
I love lifting more than the next person, but it creates large imbalances within the body.
The body is not meant to be trained in isolation. It’s meant to work together as a whole, which is why I’m such a strong advocate of calisthenics.
DDP Yoga works your entire body. It does an amazing job at strengthening your core as you are constantly required to stabilize your body and weight during the workout.
It works all the stabilizer muscles around your other muscles that rarely get any attention in the gym.
Most of the injuries you get in the gym are from imbalances and weak stabilizer muscles.
When your body is out of balance, you are at a much higher risk for injury.
When I came back to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu after two knee surgeries, I used DDP yoga to rebuild and strengthen my knee.
It worked so well that my knee is almost back to normal. That’s saying a lot as my entire meniscus was basically removed.
Aside from a knee injury, this program has also helped me tremendously with shoulder and back injuries.
As long as I keep doing this program, I rarely get injured. When I get away from DDP yoga for a few weeks, everything starts to hurt again.
The secret weapon
Without your mobility, you have nothing.
Too many people in the gym sacrifice their mobility in exchange for looking good.
Lifting weights and bodybuilding wreaks havoc on your mobility and joints.
Unless you actively work on your mobility and stretch, your body gets tight all over and you can barely bend down.
Almost nobody takes the time to stretch properly, which is why this program is so great.
It forces you to stretch while strengthening your body at the same time.
No matter who you are, you are going to get value out of this program.
Everyone I’ve ever recommended it too has loved it.
It’s my secret weapon for avoid injuries and staying mobile.
I highly recommend DDP Yoga and will sing its praises from the mountain top for anyone who will listen.
I think it’s time to go do some DDP Yoga now.
Stay pumped,
Dan
P.S. Have you ever tried DDP Yoga? I’d love to hear your thoughts, questions and comments about it below!
Wow, I actually bought these dvds last year! I think it’s great! Even though I stopped doing it. It’s only a lazy preference though. I’m very lazy, and tried it for a little while and quit. It has nothing to do with his program, I love it, but I have no motivation any more. Maybe I will get back to it soon. Great topic!
That’s awesome. I’ve gone back and forth with it as well, but mostly because I switch to another type of workout. Right now I plan on doing this indefinitely in one shape or another as I start to get some injuries again if I go too long without doing it. Glad to hear you loved it! They are hard not to love. Hope you get back to it one day soon! Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your comment.
Your review on DDP looks awesome especially when it comes to doing it from the comfort of one’s own home.
DDP, using yoga to help him rehabilitate himself and get back into the ring, is something worth trying out.
There is a ton of information about a neck injury, knee injuries and the likes and how to get rid of all these injuries, which also confirms that this program is definitely great. So, I encourage every reader to give it a shot.
Thanks a lot for sharing this useful information.
Thank you! It really is amazing what he and other have been able to do with this program. Amazing transformations. Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your comment!
Wow, this is a great, informative review on DDP Yoga – which I’d never heard of before, but am now really keen to check out. It makes so much sense what you are saying in regard to weak stabilizer muscles – basically certain muscles being forced to do more that they should while others become weaker, setting up for injury.
And the Arthur Boorman transformation!! Amazing.
Thanks Lisa! Definitely would recommend you checking it out. You just can’t beat it. It’s more than worth every penny. Arthur is a Rockstar! Very motivating. Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your comment!!
