For the better part of the last year, I have been following a low-carbohydrate diet. Particularly, I have been following and experimenting with one form of a low-carbohydrate diet called the Ketogenic diet.
The ketogenic diet has become very popular as of late. I hate to say that it’s the trending diet right now because I don’t want to put that label on it but it has become increasingly more mainstream.
There is no shortage of celebrities and athletes praising the benefits of the ketogenic diet. The number of podcasts, blogs, books, supplements and foods dedicated to the ketogenic diet seemingly grows each day.
One thing I quickly found with the ketogenic diet was the lack of available supplements and foods on the market catering to it. Due to the low sugar and carbohydrate requirement, most of the usual bars and snacks that I eat don’t fit into the diet.
The need for an appropriate keto snack led me to finding the “FBOMB”. The F in this bomb stands for fat. The FBOMB is a high-fat keto friendly nut butter designed to be eaten on the go. I was having a difficult time finding quick things to eat so when I saw this, I knew that I had to try it and do an FBOMB review.
What is the ketogenic diet?
Simply put, the ketogenic diet or “keto” as it’s known for short, is a high-fat, adequate protein, low-carbohydrate diet. The keto diet differs from other low-carbohydrate diets due to its focus on fat intake.
The goal of the diet is to bring your body into a state known as ketosis. Ketosis is the metabolic process of burning fat as energy as opposed to carbohydrates.

When you eliminate most sources of carbohydrates and bring your body into ketosis, it will burn the fat stores within your body as energy as opposed to glucose from the carbohydrates you are eating.
If you’re looking to shed fat off of your body, you can see why this may be something you would want to do. Aside from fat and weight lost, proponents of the keto diet often cite mental clarity, improved energy, improved blood pressure and improvement in appetite control as the major benefits they receive.
I am not going to go deep into the specifics of the diet in this post but if you want to know more about the diet, this is a great beginner’s guide that I found that lays it all out.
The FBOMB
Since I have delved deeper into the keto diet and am giving it serious effort in the new year, I have obviously had to eliminate a few of the foods that I was used to eating.
One thing that I have noticed since following the keto diet correctly is that my hunger has been far more controllable. I lost most cravings to snack between meals which has been great.
There are times however, that eating a normal meal isn’t always convenient. Whether it’s right before a workout or while out running errands, I don’t always want to sit down and eat. Sometimes I just want something quick to keep my energy up.
This led me on a search of the available Keto snacks on the market. Luckily, you can easily assemble your own keto snacks yourself from foods like cheeses, meats and nuts, so don’t think that you need to spend money on prepackaged snacks to follow this diet. I tried this product mostly for fun as well as to provide an honest review to all you keto nuts (pun intended).
Through some podcasts, I began to hear about this keto-friendly product called the FBOMB. It’s marketed as a quick source of healthy fats that can be eaten anywhere. Based upon that description, that’s exactly what I was looking for.

According to the FBOMB company, “FBOMBs are durable and portable pouches packed full of all-natural nut butters or 100% pure premium oils. They’re designed with the knowledge that Fat is Smart Fuel and the belief that high-quality fats should be accessible wherever life takes you. Whether your way of eating is ketogenic, paleo, low-carb, or just plain healthy, it’s important to stay energized and satiated with a convenient source of low-carb fuel. Recharge by dropping an FBOMB anytime, anywhere”.
The FBOMB is keto friendly, paleo friendly, gluten free, non-gmo, vegetarian friendly and peanut free.
Bombs away
After hearing about these a few times and reading the reviews on Amazon, I decided I was going to give the FBOMB a try. I found on the FBOMB website that aside from being sold on Amazon, they were also available at GNC.
I typically don’t go to GNC but I was feeling impatient and decided that I had to try them that day. Even though they were a few dollars cheaper on Amazon, I didn’t feel like waiting a few days to have them shipped.
Luckily, GNC had the salted chocolate macadamia flavor I wanted and I bought a box of them. They also sold them in singles which I admittedly should have bought as opposed to the box however, I really did believe that I was going to enjoy these based on the great reviews.
The box that I purchased contained 10 FBOMB pouches which each contained 1 ounce of nut butter. The box cost approximately $ 30.00.
First taste, first disappointment
I brought two FBOMBs with me that night to eat on the go at work. I figured that it would be the perfect time to try them out. I currently drive a lot for work, so something that I can eat in the car without a ton of effort is preferable.
As I parked my car and enthusiastically pulled the FBOMB out of my bag, I looked at the packaging which says to “knead, tear & eat”.

The kneading made sense as the oils in natural nut butter tend to separate. The tearing referred to the top of the pouch that needs to be torn off prior to eating. Check and check. Everything was going well. I was quickly on my way to the third step.
After I kneaded the FBOMB to an extent where it felt adequately mixed and tore the top of the pouch off, I was ready to go. As I began to push the nut butter up and out of the packaging, I did not get the mixed nut butter coming out that I was expecting.
Instead, what I got what was mostly oil coming out of the top. The oil immediately began to drip down the side and back of the pouch before I could do anything. Ultimately, the oil made it’s way to my hand.
My hopes and dreams for the FBOMB were disintegrating into my face as I quickly became weaved into a web of oily mess. I had not planned for this and did not have a napkin with me. I assumed that the FBOMB would come out with a consistency comparable to all the other nut butters I have ever tried.

As I attempted to quell the dripping oil which seemed to have a mind of it’s own, I squeezed the pouch again hoping my battle with this ever running oil was behind me.
What I got was a slightly thicker stream of oil mixed with some nut butter, which again proceeded to drip right down the side and back of the pouch. I was at least able to taste it quickly this time before I continued into the land of no return.
What was once a beautifully designed pouch was now an oily mess. The oil from the FBOMB was all over my hand and was about to be all over my clothes and car if I didn’t take immediate action. Needless to say, I dropped and F bomb of my own about then.
At that point, I had no other choice but to just thrown the pouch out completely. I barely got to try any of it. I was extremely disappointed.
After the first failed attempt to eat it, I decided it was smarter to try the second FBOMB inside at the safety of an actual table.
A second and third chance
A few hours after my first attempt, I pulled the second FBOMB out. This time I was ready with napkins and a table. I blamed myself for the first disaster. I figured that I just didn’t knead and mix the contents up enough before trying them.
This time, I kneaded the package for several minutes. Surely, that should have been enough time for something designed to eat on the go and out of convenience.
After I felt like I had the FBOMB perfectly blended, I again went to tear the top of the pouch off to dive into this healthy fat laden treat.
Yet again, a stream of oil began to immediately leak out and down the packaging. I realized at this time, that perhaps I was not totally at fault for the first incident.

Determined to actually eat most of the FBOMB this time, I went and grabbed a paper bowl. I then proceeded to squeeze the contents of the package into the bowl, which I then had to eat with a spoon.
Let me just say that one ounce of nut butter is not every much and it barely covered the bottom of the bowl in a thin layer. I will say that the taste of the nut butter was pretty good but nothing outstanding. It was pretty much what you would expect a blend of dark chocolate and macadamia nuts to taste like.
After those two attempts, my motivation to try the FBOMB for a third time was very low however, I had already paid for them and wanted to give them a fair shake.
The third time that I tried the FBOMB was a few days later and it ended almost exactly like the second time. After it starting to drip everywhere, I again had to dump it out into a bowl to save it. Although this time, a lot of the contents just wouldn’t come out of the package and I got even less out of it than I did the second time.
Needless to say, I was frustrated and upset that I had 7 more at home. At the time of this post, I don’t know what my plans are for the remainder of the FBOMBS that I have but it’s certainly not the same plans I had when I bought them.
Ingredients and Nutrition
Although it may not fare well in other categories, I have nothing bad to say about the ingredients used in the FBOMB and I think that it’s a high point for this product.
Here’s the ingredients in the salted chocolate macadamia flavor: dry roasted macadamia nuts, organic dark chocolate (unsweetened chocolate, cane syrup, cocoa powder, cocoa butter, vanilla) and sea salt.

Since this is designed to be a high-fat food, the fat content is obviously high. In one pouch there is 210 calories. The total fat in one pouch is 22 grams or 34 % daily value, 4 grams of which are saturated fat.
There are 4 grams of carbohydrates and 2 grams of sugar per pouch.
All in all, for those following a keto diet, the nutrition and ingredients of the FBOMB definitely fit into it. The fat content and ingredients were the main thing that sold me on trying these.
Price
Although the price seemed quite high when I bought these, it obviously did not deter me from trying them. The ten count box that I bought from GNC is currently going for $24.99 on Amazon (as of 04/15/2019 14:02 EST-Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on [relevant Amazon Site(s), as applicable] at the time of purchase will apply to the purchase of this product).
They are also going for the same price on the FBOMB website. Like I said above, I paid approximately $30.00 at GNC for the box or about $3.00 a pouch.
When you do the math, I paid $30.00 for 10 ounces of nut butter spread between the 10 pouches. That’s a steep price when you compare it to other nut butters. I can find jar after jar of organic nut butter right now priced far below that.
With these, you are paying a lot for the convenience and packaging of the product, which is common however, I’m much more likely to buy a jar of nut butter and package it myself at that price.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Quality, natural ingredients.
- Portable
- High fat (good for keto)
Cons
- Packaging-I think a different type of packaging which makes this product easier to consumer would improve it immensely.
- Price- I think that the price is too high for the little amount that you get.
- Consistency of product- I found the consistency to be oily and very difficult to eat.
Final opinion
For me right now, the FBOMB is a loser. After several attempts to eat them, I just couldn’t seem to do it without making a total mess. Perhaps some of that is just me, as there are mostly great reviews of it on Amazon however, there are also a fair amount of people that seemed to have the same experience that I did.
I don’t think that all is lost with the FBOMB however. I like the idea of it and I think that it could be greatly improved if they change the packaging. I think utilizing a bottle style similar to 5- hour Energy would be more appropriate. Either that or make the product thicker.
I think that the company is trying to do the right thing and with some tweaks, this could really be a winner on the keto scene.
Have you tried or heard of the FBOMB? I’d love to hear your thoughts, opinions or questions below! I’d also love to hear about your favorite snacks or products if you follow a ketogenic diet.
There are so many diets out there today and it is very important to find the best one for your physical needs. I did not know that these little keto bombs existed so i am very grateful that you mention them in your post. They seem to be pretty small for the price though, i do have a question. Are these products that you can add to smoothies, or are they just for eating on the spot?
Hi Jamiro,
Yes they are small for the price. Yes they can definitely be added to smoothies and it seems like they would be much better suited for being consumed that way as opposed to eating by itself. That is most likely what I will do with the ones that I have left. I believe the intention was for them to be eaten by themselves however, which what I wanted them for. Thank you for your comment!
There’s no shame in saying it, ketogenic diet is the trend now. The other day o read about keto juice recipes. Reading about a keto snack is so nice now I don’t really have to worry about the snacks I take messing up my diet. I was enjoy this review until when you said it’s very oily and difficult to eat. Now I don’t want to have a taste. Thanks for the update.
Hi Louis,
I didn’t want to call it a trend because I think in a lot of ways it’s a natural human diet and shouldn’t be a trend but sadly that’s the way we’ve begun to look at diets. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for your comment!
Thanks for your candid review of the Keto FBOMB product. I think I agree with you — you paid for some expensive nut butter.
Even the best of the organic, unadulterated packaged commercial nut butters all seem to have a problem with separating. Trying to get the oil worked back into the nut-stuff is a pain!
My best success has come from grinding up the roasted or raw nuts my self. Adding assorted chocolate bits is an easy embellishment as well.
Plus, you can start branching out into all kinds of nuts and seeds and make up your own mixes. Just a thought.
Having little re-usable containers that you fill up with the yummy stuff is also very do-able.
Or you might want to dump the thing into a smoothie or something.
Hi Netta,
Yes, sadly I did LOL. It can be a total pain which is why I was expecting it a bit. Thank you very much for the suggestion. Definitely something I will look at doing in the future. Thank you for your comment!
An honest and forthright review. This is just the sort of product I need when I go long distance walking. A convenient package of energy in a handy pouch. Except, oh dear. no-one wants a sticky mess. And it seems there isn’t a great deal of “product” in the product. It’s always good to see honest reviews. It makes the other reviews much more trusted.
Thanks Rob! I don’t usually have too many negative reviews on my site as I won’t buy something I don’t think I will like but this one definitely let me down. I hope the company can make some improvements in the future. I appreciate your comment!
You are right Ketogenic diet has actually become quite popular lately. I really appreciate you for sharing your with trying out the Keto FBOMB. Despite the taste part I really like the ingredients in it. I think I can really benefit from this supplement. Ill definitely try it out.
Thank you for sharing this post.
You’re welcome. I know that many will try it and have a different experience so I wanted to talk about my experience before they try it. You just may love it if you try it. I’d love to hear back if you do end up trying an FBOMB. Thanks for your comment!
Keto FBOM looks so portable and cool. But I haven’t heard about ketogenic before, this will be my first time coming across anything like it, thanks for providing relevant review on this product. Meanwhile, everyone’s seems to be focused on shedding off weight but what way can we go about it for people who really wants to add up weight.
thanks
Hi Salim,
You’re welcome. If you’re looking to gain weight I have very simple advice. Eat a lot and eat often. You can’t fail ! LOL. Thanks for your comment!
Hey Dan,Thanks for the review of fbomb. I have a friend who is very into the keto diet and has been wanting me to try it out.I’ll pass on your thoughts from your review to him as I know he’ll want to know which products are worth the money.I’ll also take your thoughts on this product into account as I begin this diet myself. Thanks again for sharing,Ron
Hi Ron,
You’re welcome. I am enjoying the diet personally and have found a lot of benefits with it. The biggest has been my appetite being under control. I found that with carbs, I would be starving every few hours. They just don’t hold me over well no matter how many I eat. I appreciate you passing it on. Good luck and thank you for your comment!
Hi Dan:
I can testify that the Keto diet really works since I’ve lost 40 lbs following it. You’re right when you say that is not easy to find keto fitting snacks.
About this FBomb is surely a great idea, although I also think that it would be a smart thing to rethink the packaging and try something more eco friendly with recycled or reusable materials, (like a peanut butter glass jar maybe?)
Anyways, great tips about the other articles explaining the keto diet in more detail!
All the best,
Bruno
Hi Bruno,
That’s awesome to hear! Congratulations. I definitely think that the packaging should be changed and while I like that idea, a glass jar wouldn’t be practical in my opinion as this is supposed to be eaten on the go. Perhaps selling a large jar of the butter would sell though, as I do think the butter itself was pretty good. Thanks for your comment!
Hi Dan, nowadays Keto is the diet!!
I kinda know the history of it, this diet was patterned from the diet for people who had diabetes. Some of my friends were into this diet and I sort of got curious about it.
i realized that going to ketosis is that easy with the real keto diet. I said real because there are so many info out there and I think the real keto diet had been concealed.
This FBomb sounds interesting but i would rather make one.. it’s so easy to make: coconut oil and real nuts, a splash of cinnamon.. then freeze it.it’s amazing!
Anyway, I enjoyed reading your review! All the best!
Hi Hanna,
It certainly is the big diet right now! Yeah I agree. I think a lot of people out there are pushing the idea that you can just eat pepperoni and cheese all day and while that is Keto, I wouldn’t make a diet out of it. That does sound really good I will have to try it. Maybe a post in the future on my own homemade fat bombs. Thanks for your comment!
The keto diet has definitely become a thing and a lot of people of people are talking about it because of its benefits. From the review of the FBOMB from Amazon, I was really looking forward to reading about your awesome experience with the FBOMB but it seems that was not the case.
It was rather disappointing but you had some good suggestions of them putting it in a bottle or making it thicker is a really good idea. Needless to say, it does have some potential and I think it is going to get better in the future
Hi Jay,
I really did think I was going to like it based on the Amazon reviews. I think it definitely does and hopefully they can make some changes. I would likely be willing to try it again in the future if there were some changes made. Thanks for your comment!
An interesting read, Dan. I’m not on any specific diet although my wife and I do eat pretty healthy.
As for the Keto diet, it may be popular but there are some experts the are speaking out against, Julie Michaels (from Biggest Loser), is one. So, hard to figure out who is right.
I do know that a proper diet and exercise plan would go a long way to increasing the health of many.
The Fbomb… Sounds like you weren’t totally satusfied with the flavor so If I was going to use something like that I would probably use it in a smoothy where I could mask some of the flavor.
There are just so many diets put there. I guess you jyst have to find the one that works for you.
All the best,
Wayne
Thanks Wayne! Yes I am aware of Jillian Michaels’s recent comments. She can think what she wants but there’s a lot of proof out there saying otherwise. I agree it’s difficult to know who’s right and it can be very frustrating. You just have to figure out what works best for you and do the best you can. Nobody is going to be perfect. The flavor was decent but I would likely just use it in a smoothie since it was so hard to eat on it’s own. Thank you for your comment!
I would try it at home. the messy oily trials got me thinking the composition may not be as appropriate as it should me. I may be wrong but a snack shouldm’t be that messy. I was actually enjoying the review before that point of messing everywhere. Anyway, trying it at home may be an option.
Hello Chyke,
I would agree that first trying it at home would be a good idea because as you can see from my experience, it can be messy. Good luck! Thanks for your comment.
Hi Dan,
I was curious about the keto diet and it sounds like a quick way to loose some weight and the fact that it helped your cravings is to me a bonus. I have an autoimmune disease so was told to stay away from meats as much as I can, so does the keto diet include legumes. I would definitely stay away from the FBomB (sounds to messy)and a great honest review.
I always love your post as they are very honest and informative.
I have made almond butter and that is really easy to do and cheaper.
Hi Phyllis,
I won’t be the one to say that it’s a quick way to lose weight, but many people have lost weight quickly on it. Yes it can include legumes but a lot of it is generally centered around meat so it may not be the diet for you. Thank you very much! I have heard others say that they have made their own nut butters as well so it is something that I am definitely going to look into. Thank you for your comment!
Very nice article! I really enjoyed reading this. Keep it up and thanks for sharing!
Thanks Frankie!! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your comment.
