Most of us will use a fiber supplement at some point in our life, usually as we get older.
We constantly hear how healthy fiber is and yet, we rarely get enough of it in our diets.
While there is some debate out there regarding the value of fiber, the consensus is that it’s important for our health.
Through my own personal experience, it’s become something that I value highly.
One of the most popular fiber supplements out there is something called psyllium powder.
I started using it about a year ago and it quickly became a staple in my supplement routine.
I recently began using a new psyllium supplement from a company called Organic India that I’m loving.
Whether you are a seasoned veteran in the psyllium game or a bright young rookie, this Organic India whole husk psyllium review is going to tell you everything you need to know about it before you buy.
What is fiber and why should you take it?
There’s a lot of people out there saying that you don’t need fiber in your diet for your body to function well, particularly in the keto community
I’m not here to dispute that one way or the other as there are people out there on both sides that have had great results but, if you’re interested in this supplement, you likely think fiber is a valuable part of your diet as I do.
Fiber is a type of carbohydrate that the body can’t digest. It passes through the body undigested.
Fiber is found in plant foods such as beans, vegetables, fruits and whole grains.
There are two categories of fiber being soluble and insoluble.
Soluble fiber, as the name suggests, dissolves in water.
Insoluble fiber does not dissolve in water and helps to move food through your digestive system.
Fiber has been found to reduce cholesterol, protect against diabetes, control weight, relieve and prevent constipation, reduce colon cancer risk and reduce inflammation.
All major problems that almost all of us will deal with at one point or another.
What is psyllium husk?
One of the first posts I did on this site was on the benefits of psyllium husk powder. If you haven’t read it before, I urge you to give it a read, but don’t be too harsh with your criticism as I wrote it when I was a brand-new blogger!
Psyllium husk powder/fiber is a type of soluble fiber which is made by grinding up the outer coating of the Plantago ovata seed.
The Plantago ovata is a medicinal plant usually grown in India.
It’s typically used to treat digestive issues and is a mild laxative in nature. Mild being the key word so don’t think you’ll be sprinting to the bathroom all day with this stuff.
Psyllium is what’s known as a “bulk forming laxative”. Psyllium turns into a gel inside your stomach once it’s combined with water and makes it much easier to “go”.
Think of a gel going through a pipe. It’s a lot like that. Cleaning the insides as it goes down.
It also works to support the entire gastrointestinal system.
Fun fact many don’t know: psyllium husk is the main ingredient in the ever popular Metamucil supplement.
About Organic India
I have been using Organic India products for years. Mostly their teas.
If you haven’t been fortunate enough to try any of their teas, I highly recommend their tulsi tea.
They have a lot of great supplements and products that are always the highest quality.
As their name entails, they are also organic, which is a huge plus for me.
Organic India was founded in India in the 1990s. The founders wanted a business that would help the struggling farmers in India and improve the state of agriculture in the country.
They seem to be a great company that truly cares about their customers and their community.
I can tell you from trying many of their products that they are all the highest quality.
The supplements they make are also unique, particularly when it comes to their teas.
Upon until about a month ago, I was using the 365 Everyday Value brand from Whole Foods which I loved, but they kept running out of the flavor I liked.
There are also a few ingredients in the 365 Everyday Value brand that I wasn’t too keen on, so I decided to try Organic India’s psyllium husk powder the last time I ran out.
I’ve been using it for about a month now and I am really enjoying it.
Organic India’s psyllium is certified organic and non-gmo project verified. No chemical pesticides or fertilizers are used to grow it ever.
It’s a little different from the one I was using as it’s made up of the seed husk from the Plantago ovata herb and is not as finely ground as the first one I used.
What I like about it
The thing I like most about Organic India’s psyllium supplement is that it actually works and works well.
The other one I had worked equally well so I can’t knock that one either.
I also like this one because it’s simple. The only ingredient in it is organic whole husk psyllium seed. No other ingredients.
While it might be a little bland, I know that it’s of the highest quality which relieves most of my concerns. That’s the plus of buying from ethical companies you can trust.
What I don’t like about it
I was a bit spoiled by the first brand I used as it came in two flavors which tasted pretty good.
Organic India’s psyllium is just plain old psyllium. There are no flavors.
It’s honestly not a big deal for me as I will take quality over taste every time.
That being said, it does not have a bad taste. It just kind of tastes like plain seeds.
It’s not a huge deal though because you usually drink it quickly.
I actually chug it right after mixing it because if you don’t it will start to gel up which is a bit gross.
If you are like me, from the bland taste won’t bother you one bit.
This psyllium also doesn’t mix too well, but that seems to be more with psyllium itself than the brand as the other brand I used didn’t mix well either.
Again, if you just drink it fast you won’t have much of a problem.
Is it effective?
This stuff is definitely 100 % effective for me. It does everything it claims to as far as regularity.
On top of that, my digestion also feels much better with it.
I can definitely notice that days I forget to take it.
It’s become a part of my nightly routine before bed and I get anxious if I forget it.
Another win for Organic India
This supplement adds to the long line of fantastic supplements made by Organic India.
I’m glad that I decided to buy it and don’t regret my purchase for a second.
This is my choice for a psyllium supplement right now by far when it comes to price, quality and effectiveness.
If you are looking for a fiber supplement, I highly recommend this one.
It is worth buying in my experience and has great reviews from the vast majority of customers that have tried it.
